Throughout Scripture, fire from heaven has signified divine presence, power, and purification. From the account of Elijah’s altar on Mount Carmel (1 Kings 18:38) to the fiery cloud that led Israel, fire represented God's active engagement. But at Pentecost, fire didn’t fall on an altar—it fell on people. Why? Because the new altar was the heart, and the flame was not for destruction, but empowerment. Jesus, the risen Lord, promised to send the Holy Spirit not just as comfort, but as fire from heaven—transforming fearful followers into powerful proclaimers.
